Thickener In Toothpaste Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose

- Jan 19, 2018 -

Carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC) is one of the important raw materials for the production of toothpaste. Its function is to mix the liquid of toothpaste and soild raw material evenly together, make the toothpaste has the flow of forming, proper viscosity and certain brightness and exquisite.

The common no-additive formula for toothpaste can be used as a binder with sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. However, anionic carboxymethyl cellulose is sensitive to the high concentration of ions,so the combination of carboxyl and metal ions will reduce the water-solubility of carboxymethyl cellulose sodium, thus affecting its thickening effect.Sodium carboxymrthyl cellulose is limited in high quality and special effects of toothpaste.

With nonionic hydroxy ethyl cellulose(HEC) asadhesive, bonding agent of ionconcentration, drug resistance be improved greatly improve the storage stability of the paste, extend the storage time of toothpaste.Toothpaste manufacturers can use carboxymrthyl cellulose and HEC compounds in high-salt toothpaste to make the cost of the product almost unchanged, but the quality of the toothpaste has improved a lot.
