Effects Of Cellulose Ether As Water-retaining Agents And Thickeners

Cellulose ether can be used as a water preservative.The water-retaining effect of cellulose ether can prevent the matrix from absorbing too much water and too fast to prevent evaporation of water,so as to ensure that water has enough moisture in the hydration process of cement.


Generally speaking,with the increase of cellulose ether content,the water storage capacity of cement mortar will be improved,The higher the viscosity (molecular weight) of cellulose ether,the better the water capacity.Cellulose ether can increase the viscosity of the liquid,so it can be used as a thickener.It plays an important role in coating,latex paint,cement grouting material and so on.In fact,HPMC has overcome the flocculation of solid particles as a protective colloid.The cement mortar with HPMC has high viscosity,and the pulp is not easy to stratify.The total time needed in the mixing process and construction process is less,which helps to improce the performance of mortar.


The smaller the powder particles,the higher the solubility of the dissolved cellulose ether in the water,the shorter the time required to achieve the desired final viscosity,thus shortening the standing and curing time.In addition,temperature and PH have an effect on the effect of cellulose ether.


Cellulose ether has unique properties,not readily soluble in hot water,but soluble in cold water.For most of the cellulose ether,when the temperature of the aqueous solution is lower than the gel point,the lower the temperature of the solution,the higher the viscosity,and water retention and thickening effect is more apparent,for some species,not the meaning of the gel.For example,carboxymethyl cellulose and hydroxyethyl cellulose ether can be dissolved in cold water and hot water.
